War by Edwin Starr – Motown Monday

“War, huh, yeah, What is it good for, Absolutely nothing”

Quite possibly one of the best protest songs ever made. It boggles the mind how we could carry on fighting wars after such a powerful lesson. You could be forgiven for thinking picturing Chris Tucker in Rush Hour when you here this one.

Motown is a definitely a legacy worthy of a lot or respect. What that record company managed to achieve through music cannot be overstated, particularly given the zeitgeist of the era in which it was started.

Working from the appropriately titled Hitsville Recording Studios, Motown churned out hots after hits, year after year. Their success is not limited to their impact on the music charts but their impact on the culture and the thinking of the people their music reached. It would be fair to say that Motown played a major role in easing racial tension in a then completely segregated America.

To that end, we have created Motown Monday to celebrate and show some respect to some of the amazing music that Motown has blessed us with over the years.
